03/16/2023

Are you searching for savings while planning a technology refresh for your school or business? Managed print consolidates, standardizes and raises the efficiency of your printer fleet. Managed Print Services (MPS) providers can also assist in designing cost-effective print fleets and introduce you to resources to apply for energy rebates.

Here’s how Gordon Flesch Company helped the Racine Unified School District do more with less by streamlining and updating the district’s print fleet. We even introduced them to energy rebate resources that made their upgrade even sweeter.

Racine Unified School District’s Print Fleet Upgrade

The Racine Unified School District is the fifth-largest school district in Wisconsin with an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students. The District had an expensive problem. They weren’t sure how many printers they had, or exactly where they all were. This left the District unable to calculate how much they were spending on printers or supplies.

The District then enlisted the help of Gordon Flesch Company (GFC) to conduct a survey to locate, inventory and map out all of the District’s print devices and make recommendations of how to simplify and upgrade their printer fleet for maximum efficiency and savings.

Empowering Smart Energy Decisions

As a part of this process, GFC also introduced the District to the potential of energy rebates available through Focus on Energy. This organization helps people and businesses to find incentives and resources that can help lower their energy usage.

The Rebate Process

The District worked with an Energy Advisor from Focus on Energy who took the print fleet survey compiled by GFC and estimated the energy wattage of their existing equipment. The same was done for the energy wattage of the new equipment that GFC proposed to install.

In addition, the District also completed a few short informational forms about the project as a part of Focus on Energy’s process, which assisted in obtaining the rebate.

The Result

The District reduced their total number of printing and copying devices by 80 percent. In the first year, there was a 30 percent reduction in printing and copying across the District, which was equal to one semitruck load less paper being used. In fact, Focus on Energy estimated a 90% annual reduction in electricity needed to power the new print fleet versus the old one.

This printer fleet upgrade earned the District a one-time energy rebate of more than $92,000 in addition to estimated cost savings of more than $70,000 per year.

And in the community report published by the Racine Unified School District, they added that, “response time for repairs has also greatly diminished.” That’s a gold star for MPS provider, GFC.

Solutions to Fit Your Business Needs

After this success, GFC has promoted this program to other school districts who have enjoyed a rebate for refreshing their print fleet. Focus on Energy also offers rebates to more than just schools. Organizations in agribusiness, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, restaurant and more have received financial incentives and technical support for a variety of energy saving projects.
