Lutheran Counseling and Family Services of Wisconsin
LCFS was founded in 1896 as an orphanage for children living on the streets of Milwaukee. Over time, it developed and still provides foster care and adoption services. In 1977, LCFS added mental health therapy to its program and that is the primary focus of its work today.
The mission of LCFS is to provide outpatient mental health therapy, including alcohol and other drug abuse counseling, educational programs emphasizing the health of the whole person and the whole family, birth option education and adoption services. Its services are available to families, couples and individuals of all ages.
LCFS is committed to making outpatient mental health therapy available and affordable to all who need it. To that end, in the 1990’s the LCFS’ Board of Directors implemented a sliding fee scale for the underinsured and noninsured, which includes a minimum financial commitment from the client based on household size and income. The sliding fee scale does not cover the full cost of therapy; that cost has to be supplemented by outside funding.
Our donation of $5000 will help guarantee that those who are no-income, low-income and mid-income will have access to mental health therapy if needed.
