Greater Joliet YMCA

YMCA is a multifaceted organization serving all economic levels of Joliet and the surrounding communities with a mission to put Christian principles into practice by developing relationships among all persons and providing programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body. Since its establishment over 80 years ago, this Y has instituted a multitude of affordable programming and services for families, children, adults and the overall community, including before and after school care, day camps and family programs and sports for all ages. It currently serves more 14,000 members and participants each year.

In addition to its more traditional programming, the Greater Joliet YMCA also offers a
"Y without walls." This non-facility branch runs after school programs, a summer day camp, choral and arts programs, teen achievers, and a basketball league for youth in the central and east side Joliet schools at little or no cost to participants. The Teen Achiever Program is an academic/career development initiative for high school youth. The students receive inspiration and guidance in setting goals to graduate from high school, gain entry into college, and ultimately achieve successful entry into a career of their choosing. College tours and visits are critical components of this program, providing a concrete experience of what is possible beyond high school. A remarkable 100% of participating seniors have gone directly to an institution of higher learning after graduation.

An award of $5000 will help to fund college visits for participants in the Teen Achiever Program.
