The Cathedral Center

The Cathedral Center, established in 2002, is the only shelter in downtown Milwaukee that serves women and families. The Center works collaboratively with its partner agencies to provide needed shelter, referrals, casework and support for thousands of in-need families each year. In 2008, the Center served more than 2800 individuals, more than half in their shelter program alone. The Center staff assisted more than 84% of those served in securing placement; over 30% moved on to permanent housing.

The number of homeless people in Milwaukee is staggering, with more than 2000 individuals estimated to be homeless each night. Given the struggling economy, the number of homeless families is expected to increase. Simultaneously, the outlook for public funding is grim, resulting in funding crises for agencies like the Cathedral Center.

In Milwaukee, needed services are not centrally located and are not near the Cathedral Center. Each year, the Center gives out an estimated $10,000 in taxi and bus vouchers to families who are required to work with different agencies to help them get off the streets.

Our donation of $5000 will help cover the cost of those vouchers.
